This past Saturday 1st of May, radio personality and social media influencer Mduduzi Madzwamusi popularly known as Mdu Tha Party launched his annual top ten Botswana rappers list show, with a private viewing hosted by New Capitol Cinemas, Masa Centre Gaborone. For this year, the show promises to be bigger, different and better. For those that do not know, “Botswana Top Show is an audio/visual production where we celebrate our local artists and
contributors to the entertainment industry”, explained Mdu.
If you are an avid follower of Botswana’s Popular culture , you will know that every year for the past six years, Mdu with a panel of other industry players have been getting together to give a review of the Hip Hop fraternity in the country for the previous year. Some of the panelists include comedians Johnny Pula and Triccs of the Johnny Pula and Trics show that airs every Friday on the Blac Television network, radio presenter Nina Bandz from 267 radio , 2020 Yarona Fm Music Awards Best Social Media winner Banyezus to mention but a few. This year the show comes with a twist seeing new faces on the panel. The likes of Yarona Fm afternoon drive show co-host Kedi Molosiwa and singer Dato Seiko as panelists for this year’s list. Speaking at the launch , Mduduzi promised that the show will be premiering on a bigger platform different from the normal personal YouTube channel and Facebook page for a bigger reach as his aim is to raise more awareness and do his part in making sure the world sees how able Batswana especially the new age musicians are. That being said, the show will be premiered on The Voice Newspaper Facebook page this
Tuesday the 4th of May. “The Voice newspaper has the largest number of following on Facebook across all of Africa. This is such a huge advantage as we will be able to get more reach and more views than ever before” said Madzwamusi during a Q and A session at the end of the show. With a rebrand from Mdu’s Top 10 Rappers List to Botswana Top 10 Show, Mdu stated that from now going forward the show will no longer be focusing on Rappers but the general music scene in the country. This is why there will be 11 subsequent episodes following the normal rapper’s list that we are used to where one will be released every month. The rappers list will be followed by the
Botswana Women in Music Top 10 curated by Nina Bands.
An interesting twist added to the show is the Medium In Media, where Music Journalist and Tarot Reader Bakang Akoonyatse will be doing a tarot reading on the artists featured on the show. However, as we are all aware that spirituality is a very personal and sensitive journey, Mdu promised to not impose this aspect of the show to the artists in question but rather seek their consent before their personal readings are aired on the show. Mdu pleaded with his guests to help him find sponsorship as the show is costly for him and his team to put together. He shared that there’s advertising space available for sale on the show and is open for business
