Thousands of African musicians have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has occasioned unprecedented lockdowns and restrictions across the continent. African musicians and professionals traditionally make a living from live performances, and now they find themselves in extreme difficulty.The Music In Africa Live project is one of a number of new projects that the @musicinafricaofficial is introducing this year to support music professionals in Africa.

From the album Age Appropriate “Neighbourhood Watch” is a call for vigilance , prompting the listener to keep an eye open not only for self but for neighbour as well.
Using actual news-clip audio, the song begins by painting a picture of a crime riddled world, before delving into Melo’s comical recounts of run-ins with the world of crooks. With a flow reminiscent of old school Ice Cube over some West Coast inspired instrumentation by Westbrook, the track vividly paints an existence that requires one to stay on their toes.
The last third of the song crosses into a beat-switch, now handled by producer MVRTIN, which employs a modern trap-soul style beat with thumping drums to deliver the message that crime isn’t always literal: sometimes crooks use lifestyle and influence as a means to cheat your existence.
The lines “This is just a warning for all of you that visiting/ Be careful where you walk or you’re caught in a trap slipping” Melo closes the lesson of what to be careful of and what to look out for while journeying through the city streets
Jackalas, the CP hitmaker, returns with something powerful and personal — a new single titled “Motlhala”, meaning The Path. From the very first line, where he repeats “life is life,” Jackalas sets a tone that’s both grounded and reflective, narrating the realities of youth, struggle, and perseverance.
Produced by longtime collaborator Prolanez, Motlhala blends mellow instrumentation with Jackalas’ honest storytelling. It’s a song about temptation, resilience, and finding one’s footing when life demands you to stand tall.
The visuals, shot by LP, are equally striking — a chrome black-and-white palette that feels raw, cinematic, and deeply intentional. Together, the sound and visuals create a space for reflection — about purpose, growth, and the choices that define our path.
