Sampa The Great continues to own her ‘Lane’
Sampa’s trajectory is not only intriguing but inspiring if at all it required a descriptor, from recently headline international shows, winning awards, and NPR concert, and now a big music drop which we suspect signals that there’s more music coming from the Zambian born, Botswana raised and Australia based creative. Sampa’s Music was also recently featured on Netflix’s Ozark, a moment that had all her fans congratulating her for a monumental feature, given that the specific episode featured legendary New York rapper Nas.

From the album Age Appropriate “Neighbourhood Watch” is a call for vigilance , prompting the listener to keep an eye open not only for self but for neighbour as well.
Using actual news-clip audio, the song begins by painting a picture of a crime riddled world, before delving into Melo’s comical recounts of run-ins with the world of crooks. With a flow reminiscent of old school Ice Cube over some West Coast inspired instrumentation by Westbrook, the track vividly paints an existence that requires one to stay on their toes.
The last third of the song crosses into a beat-switch, now handled by producer MVRTIN, which employs a modern trap-soul style beat with thumping drums to deliver the message that crime isn’t always literal: sometimes crooks use lifestyle and influence as a means to cheat your existence.
