We caught up with a really dope creative right here in Botswana, a young man whose focus on switching the game up and pushing the boundary on youth culture has engulfed all he does, this is Azizi.

Azizi is a young Motswana cinematographer “Passionate about change“, he says in our conversation. He describes his work as Afrofuturistic, “I really want to tell the African story I’m the most creative way….my involvement in the youth culture space started as a way of me trying to learn how to shoot videos, to me it was the most interesting thing I could find to shoot… it later developed into a medium of expressing the voice of a generation..”, this as he spoke about his motivation for getting involved in the space.

Watch The Motherland (a Serowe Story) a visual showcase

Since publishing some of his The Motherland story based on the people of Serowe (his hometown), Aziz has gone on to do quite a bit of work; something he also spoke to, “My proudest piece of work is the project I’ve been working on since March (despite the pandemic), I believe it embodies my vision as a creative…you will see for yourself soon enough“.

I also like the promos I’ve shot with Bk Proctor and also like Clarity Cut by Blueflame and 7DOS“, the words of a man enjoying his work and we wanted to celebrate it with him.

We asked a few questions, his opinion on Botswana’s creative industry
The creative space is really interesting here… if only there was more capital in the industry, we would be the best in Africa because our stories are so rich and yet untold….I’d like to see a bit more professionalism from all ends of the creative space so that we can be taken seriously as an industry… also for corporations to engage more young Botswana…..

Where do you hope to be in the next 3 years?
The next 3 years…. expand my business…. I would hope to be sharing the beauty of our country to the world. And be a better storyteller. By his business he means Renov8Media, “Renovate to me is to change something for the better and that’s the intention I had coming into this.. to leave a positive impact in the game and in the world…”
