This is one of the most defining times in Botswana’s entrepreneurial history, not only is the country looking to propel itself forward as a force in the knowledge-based economy, it is actively taking the steps necessary to try to facilitate opportunities and bring the dream closer to those that are keen to leverage them. For young entrepreneurs, the 2nd coming of the Forbes Under 30 Summit to Botswana promises to once again deliver powerful, life-changing experiences in lockstep with networking opportunities. One thing that excites me personally is the inclusion of some world-class entrepreneurs in the entertainment space including Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Davido, hitmaker Fireboy DML, and EMPIRE’s Ghazi Shami.

Fireboy DML is the hitmaker of the Afrobeats hit, Peru

The guys join a confirmed “world-class slate of local and international speakers who will share insights and influence for the newest – and next – generation of leaders. These include

  • Ghazi Shami, Founder & CEO, Empire Distribution
  • Chris Maurice, CEO, Yellow Card
  • Kailee Scales, CEO, Pencils of Promise
  • Denim Richards, Actor & Founder, Khumo Studios
  • Fireboy DML, Award Winning Afrobeats Artist
  • Uche Pedro, Founder & CEO, Bella Naija
  • Daniel Yu, Founder & CEO, Wasoko
  • Abedola Williams, Chairman, AW Network and Founder, RED | For Africa
  • Noureddine Tayebi, Founder & CEO, Yassir”, sourced from Forbes.com

My biggest hope is that the Forbes platform not only inspires but forsters forward thought for Botswana’s next generation of entertainment and cultural entrepreneurs especially as the Creative Sector continues to contribute significantly to Botswana’s GDP, something that stood at close to 5.2% a few years back.

The Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing & Events industry holds huge potential in stimulating and accommodating business along its value chain, especially for the entertainment business. One can only wish that the Forbes platform leaves a lasting and traceable impact on Botswana, once it moves on to the rest of Africa.
