In a move that will surely present itself as a glimmer of hope for the Creative Industries in Botswana, The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture has just release a draft version of the NATIONAL ARTS COUNCIL OF BOTSWANA BILL, 2020. The document is touted to be presented to the National Assembly sometime in the coming year with one of the big cornerstones being “to establish the National Arts Council of Botswana to promote and develop the arts and culture”.

The establishment of this body will come as a welcome development as many have been calling for it’s establishment as long as my memory serves me. Issues of structure, funding, management, governance and many related matters are pitched in the document which the government has made an open call for submissions for. Do your bit, read though it and then share, the closing date of receipt of comments 5th May 2020 and comments received after this date will not be considered.

Just a few words in relation to what Duma Buku said in 2019 with regards to the sector
